The countdown has already begun at the Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas’ new restaurant, Auntie’s Kitchen.

Starting yesterday and running through Dec. 25, Auntie’s Kitchen is presenting the 12 Days of Poke with a different featured dish each day in addition to its regular menu.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Imua Family Services, a Maui County nonprofit organization with the mission of “empowering families and their children to reach their full potential.”

“Auntie’s Kitchen is all about that feeling you get when you come home for the holidays,” says Brandon Maeda, director of food and beverage at Westin KOR. “The 12 Days of Poke is our own local twist on a fun Christmas classic and embodies both the warmth of the season and the spirit of giving back.”

Created by Chefs Tanya Doyle and Brian Murphy, the 12 Days of Poke at Auntie’s Kitchen includes the more traditional preparations with sashimi-grade fish, as well as not-so-classic preparations with cooked pork and even watermelon.

In Hawaiian, poke means, “to slice.” It is ubiquitous with raw fish, but poke can be made without it. The Westin KOR’s promo celebrates all varieties. Flavors will include Curry-stmas with ahi, onions, apples, dried cranberries and toasted cashews tossed in curry oil; Tutu’s Big Fat Pigs with pork belly crisps, Maui onions, tomatoes, vinegar, shoyu, patis (fish sauce) and lime juice; Melon Kalikimaka with li hing mui powder on compressed watermelon cubes, vanilla simple syrup, finger limes and toasted black sesame seeds; and North Pole Poke of salmon with onions, green onions, sesame oil and alaea salt.

Auntie’s Kitchen replaced Ocean Pool Bar and Grill poolside. It is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Live music is from 4 to 7 p.m. Mondays and Fridays. Self-parking is free. Call 667-3254.
